Cambree reached out to me to ask about redoing their bridals for their 2 year anniversary. I was so excited for the idea! What fun to get back into your wedding dress, and throw a little more caution to the wind about keeping it nice for the wedding day? Since it was the middle of December and we wanted to find a spot with lots of pine trees, that meant deep snow. Luckily, I have a few pairs of snow shoes so we made it an adventure.
Here are some things to consider if you want to go snowshoeing for your shoot:
Dress appropriately: Layer your clothing to stay warm but avoid overheating. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add insulating layers, and top it off with a waterproof and windproof outer shell. Don’t forget warm socks!
Learn the proper technique: Walking with snowshoes is similar to walking naturally, but with a slightly wider gait. Keep your weight centered and distribute it evenly across both snowshoes. Lift your feet slightly higher than usual to prevent stepping on the frames. You kind of have to waddle and it feels funny, but everyone is doing it so it’s just something to laugh about sometimes!
Choose trails suitable for your skill level and experience. I’ll make sure we are staying on marked snowshoeing trails or are in an area that is avalanche safe.
Stay hydrated and fueled: Even in cold weather, your body needs water and energy. Carry a water bottle and snacks to stay hydrated and maintain your energy levels. High-energy foods like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruits are convenient and provide quick nourishment.
Respect nature and wildlife: Enjoy the beauty of nature but leave no trace. Respect wildlife and their habitats by observing them from a distance and refraining from feeding or disturbing them.
Safety first: Always prioritize safety while snowshoeing. Stay on marked trails, be cautious on icy or steep sections, and listen to your body. If you’re a beginner, start with shorter and easier routes until you build your stamina and confidence.
Have fun and embrace the experience: Snowshoeing is not only a great workout but also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the winter wonderland. Take breaks to appreciate the scenery, take photos, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the snowy outdoors!
Remember, the more you snowshoe, the more comfortable you’ll become. So, lace up your snowshoes, embrace the winter landscape, and have a great time exploring!
Like I said before I have a couple pairs of snowshoes- but depending on your shoe size and weight, it may be better to rent your own pair! You can always ask me here about the sizes and check first. Utah State’s Outdoor Programs does daily rentals so you can check them out as well!
