Adventure Sessions are able to be a part of any session booked with me- including couples, bridals, individuals, and weddings- and there are some great hikes in Northern Utah to do these! If you are adventurous at heart, then adding some hiking to your shoot will not only create a fun memory, but get you incredible photos with amazing views few are willing to get to.
And no worries if you get sweaty when you hike! I have a changing tent that I pack with me on these adventure sessions. A little touchup with a wet rag and a new change of clothes and you’ll look brand new.
The Naomi Peak Trail is a 6.2-mile roundtrip hike with an elevation gain of 2,011 feet. The trailhead is located at the Tony Grove Lake parking area, which is accessed via Logan Canyon.
This hike is one of my favorite Northern Utah Hikes. In my personal opinion, this is the hike with the best views Cache Valley has to offer. While the hike is hard, with some steep parts near the end, once you pass over the peak, a whole range of mountains is unfolded before your eyes. It’s stunning. Tony’s Grove is only open during the summer months, so this hike is best July-September, and you’ll most likely be able to catch some wildflowers during these months as well.
There are several trails that lead to the summit of Mendon Peak, including the Mendon Peak Trail, which is a 6.2-mile roundtrip hike with an elevation gain of 3,300 feet. The trailhead is located at the Mendon City Canyon trailhead.
Hiking to the summit of Mendon Peak offers stunning views of Cache Valley and the Wellsville Mountains. This trail is only accessible during the summer months- and wildflowers can be found on the trail around July. The views of this Northern Utah Hike are stunning and would be perfect for an adventure shoot!
I’ve done a few shoots here at Crimson Trail and there’s good reason! This is one of Logan’s favorite hikes, especially in the fall. The colors in Logan Canyon are amazing and I’ve seen some of my favorite sunsets on this hike. To get to the cliff spot where I generally take pictures, it’s about an hour hike with about 1,300 ft elevation gain.
If hard hikes aren’t your thing- Temple Fork is for you. With lots of rolling hills, an easy (and mostly flat) hike, this place will be perfect for a unique adventure session location. This trail can even be accessed by cars to some points along the trail. My favorite part about this trail is a clear water area, naturally dammed by the local beavers, which could be used for a fun water shoot to end a warm summer day.
While White Pine is about a 10 mile hike and will take 4-5 hours to complete with over 2,700 in elevation gain, this spot is gorgeous. If you love the views of Tony’s Grove Lake, you will get a similar view here, but a little more private, and some other spots to explore along the way.
This trail is only about 1.5 miles and can be done in around 40 minutes. This is a trail is you enjoy more laid back, easy hikes, but still love adventure! You’ll find a gorgeous lake surrounded by mountains, which even has a rope swing. This trail is located near Bear Lake (so technically in Idaho) but close enough to Northern Utah to get included in this list!
Mt. Timpanogas is gorgeous. That’s all. If you hike the whole trail, it’s 14 miles and can take around 9 hours to complete. If we do this for an adventure session, we definitely do not have hike all the way. There are plenty of beautiful spots for your adventure session along the way! Because of elevation, this trail is only open during summer months, and is one of the more challenging hikes.
The Uintah Mountain Range is perfect for hard core adventure lovers. This trail is priced a little differently than other adventure sessions, because it does require backpacking and an overnight stay. If this hike is one of your goals, you’ll want to train for this by hiking frequently, and with a weighed backpack.
This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. Red Castle Lake is a must if we shoot here! It feels untouched by the outside world. There is tons of lakes, unique rock formations, mountain ranges, rivers, waterfalls, and wildlife that make this place so special. Inquire in advance for this location!
This trail is located near Mounthaven, Utah and is about 7 miles long. The hike in total will take about 5 hours to hike! So challenging, but amazing views of pine trees, mountains, and a lake that will make for a great adventure session in Northern Utah.
This trail has similar views to Lake Blanche, but is 2.5 miles and will only take about 2 hours of hiking! This trail is located near Salt Lake City.
If any of these locations are speaking to you, reach out to me in my contact form! I love to hike and get to know you as we go on these adventure sessions while being able to capture the gorgeous views Northern Utah has to offer.
