This bridal shoot made for a perfect scene in front of the rising sun. Tiffany & Justin made this simple and sweet shoot into a fairytale. Porcupine Reservoir is located in Avon UT, and is a unique, GORGEOUS place to take bridals, engagements, or couples photography.
Locals of Cache Valley know this place for its cliff jumping in the summer. These were taken in late summer, and the water levels were the lowest they’ve been in decades. This made the walk to the shore a little more muddy than previous years, but generally the shore is sandy, especially if you decide to go in early summer.
Because of the location of the water, this spot is best for evening shoots or ceremonies if you’re on the east side of the lake. The sun will set right behind the water, with the mountains framing your special moment. Porcupine Reservoir is a stunning choice for a small ceremony, or just for general engagement or bridal photos. Photography at Porcupine Dam can also be great in the mornings at the other end of the reservoir (which can reduce drive time and need for 4 wheel drive). This is the route we took for this bridal shoot.
If you are traveling to Porcupine Reservoir from Logan Utah, expect a 30-40 minute drive. This dam is on the very south end of Cache Valley, and I would suggest a 4 wheel drive car for once you get to the dam. You can drive right up to the reservoir on paved roads, or there’s a narrow dirt road that wraps around the mountain. For that reason, it’s best to go on days that aren’t as busy (weekends) if driving is a concern.
However, if you do decide you want to shoot on the weekend, consider stopping in Paradise at the historical Cracker Barrel restaurant. They just opened again in 2021, and are currently open Thursday-Saturday. But it can make a fun addition to your date. Because getting your photos done is a date!! Don’t forget to remind your hubby of that;)
