Hyrum Dam is a nostalgic place for photography to me, and I love any chance I get to shoot here. Especially if it’s for fashion photography! Sunsets at Hyrum Dam are incredible. I’ve spent many evenings here, and I can testify that if you’re in the middle of the water just floating on a kayak, it’s even better. Seeing all the orange and red hues dance on the water is such a serene and peaceful experience.
Knowing the ways the colors bounce on the waters, I was so excited to shoot here and actually get in the water. 2021 is one of the lowest the dam has been in decades, and so the shoreline was muddy to the point where we were sinking since this was late summer/ start of fall. Teryn was such a good sport though and we did our best to find a spot that we could stand in without sinking. If I did this shoot like this again, early summer is a better time since the shoreline is usually sandy/rocky! However, this hasn’t ever been a problem except this year because of the lack of rain.
Anyways, can we talk about how stunning Teryn is in these?? She is honestly such a beautiful person inside and out. Super down to earth, easy to talk to, and just a ray of sunshine to be around. And she’s Miss Wyoming Teen so she had some gowns I way dying to take pictures of, especially this orange one! Anything that is sheer and flowy, the answer is yes. Getting the light peak through the material is my favorite and I always just end up squealing when that happens so don’t be spooked.
Cache Valley is a jackpot of gorgeous photography locations, and Hyrum Dam is just one of those spots. So consider coming here for a sunset shoot with me and let me know if you want to get in the water (you don’t have to), because water shoots are so fun!! And especially in the summer, you might appreciate having a little water fight to end your shoot. Contact me if that sounds like something up your alley:) And don’t forget to Pin if you love these images! You can follow me on Pinterest for more photo inspiration.
